The silent epidemic: Infections in hospitals
As reported by Israel State Controller "the number of deaths related to hospital acquired infections from antibiotic-resistant or sensitive bacteria in Israel is estimated at 4,000 to 6,000 patients a year.
According to the State Comptroller, the factors are:
Poor hand hygiene, hospitalization conditions and a severe shortage of infrastructure and manpower, lack of isolation of patients, lack of awareness and a large number of visitors to hospitals
Per the same calculation, one-quarter to three-quarters of the acquired infections in hospitals can be prevented, that is, between 1,000 and 4,500 deaths.
